What We Do

We offer free, independent, and confidential advice to all, no matter their background or situation.

Through the advice we give we aim to empower people in our community with the knowledge and confidence to find a solution and move forward.

Because we want our service to be accessible to everyone, we give advice and share information in a variety of ways, including:

  • at face to face appointments,
  • in outreach venues,
  • through home visits,
  • via our social media channels,
  • and via referrals from partner organisations within the community.

Our advice covers a range of issues. For example: we might help a single parent facing eviction to negotiate with their landlord and secure emergency financial support, preventing homelessness, or guide a pensioner struggling with debt through a manageable debt plan, easing financial stress and improving their wellbeing. Here is a list of all the issue we can help with:

  • Legal rights and responsibilities

  • Debt management
  • Financial education
  • Health and disability problems
  • Employment
  • Housing
  • Consumer rights
  • Family / relationships
  • Home and neighbourhood

We understand that social issues affect people in unique ways, which is why equity, diversity, and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do – not just for our clients, but for our dedicated staff and volunteers too.

OUR
IMPACT

In 2024 alone we helped over 4,000 clients with over 20,000 issues through our advice work.

Every person we assist makes a real difference – from helping a worker facing unfair dismissal secure legal advice and compensation, to supporting a young adult with disabilities in accessing the benefits they need for vital care. With each case, we aim to improve not only individual lives but also the broader community, one step at a time.

Our funding

Our funding comes from a variety of sources, including grants, partnerships, government contracts, local government support and public donations.

Funding is primarily provided by Pembrokeshire County Council and the Welsh Government, we have also received project funding from Hwyel Dda NHS Trust, Town and Community Councils as well as other local partners.  Without the support of our funders and those individuals who generously donate, we would be unable to provide our vital service.

A short history of Pembrokeshire Citizens Advice

The first Citizens Advice office in Pembrokeshire opened in Pembroke Dock during the early 1980s located in the upper floor of the Midland Bank in Meyrick Street. At the same time, Citizens Advice centres across the country were seeing a surge in social security enquires driven by two recessions that led to rising poverty, and increased demand for support.

In 2008, Pembrokeshire Citizens Advice was formed by merging the Haverfordwest office with the formerly independent bureaux of Pembroke and District. Both advice centres were facing growing demand and bringing them together was the best way to better serve communities across Pembrokeshire.
